Just wondering how many train full-time and how many hold down full-time or part-time jobs. Probably depends on the sport, but it would be good to have an overall number. Thanks!
I think it would be the other way around. I think percentage wise there are very few people who could afford to train full time. Look at how many obscure events there are that don’t get much coverage. No coverage means no sponsors. Then even in the mainstream events look at how many people enter but don’t win. No medals means no sponsor. I would say a good majority have to hold down full or part-time jobs and train at the same time.

They get huge endorsement deals. Most of them wouldn’t have to work, other than their sport and competing.

You wouldn't catch me doing that either.
I'm recently shocked about the sudden spate of Olympic logos I'm seeing round London, Olympic chococolate (hmmm), Olympic soft toys, John Lewis is proudly displaying that they're the Olympic department store and it's still two years away, sigh. Much as I'm looking forward to the Olympics coming, if London is going to spend the next two years swimming in that logo I won't be!
This is an article that deals with the typical day in the life of an Olympic athlete. It tells of Ericka Lorenz's daily activities that she completes as an Olympic Water Polo player. This article is good for telling what the practice is like and what kind of dedication is required in order to be at the Olympic level.

How many times have you been stopped in the street and asked your opinion on the latest brand of mayonnaise, the policies of a political party or if you think your town should spend more on Christmas decorations? Surveys are a tried and trusted way of gathering data on people’s opinions and can carry some serious clout. Now thanks to the Internet, online surveys are even more effective as a data gathering tool, with a much wider reach and consequently, a greater influence on business decisions.
Most people who lost their living wage jobs were forced into minimum wage jobs and as a result, cannot make their mortgage payments. Over the last three decades, more and more living wage jobs disappeared and replaced with minimum wage jobs. Masses of franchises have replaced mom and pop businesses and these franchises have created the endless stream of minimum wage jobs. Get rid of all of the franchises in this country and the unemployment rate will drop to historic lows immediately.

Don’t dodge the question: how about you show us this “warming trend”? If it exists, some scientists must have measured it, right? Should be pretty easy to google up.. especially since you claim to know it for a fact already.

A part time substitute to help aid in the workload of a single parent is a reasonable response, and helps address the issues at hand of work not getting completed and the single parent having to leave the office early. The part time employee can be partially paid by the pay cut of the single parent, and therefore the company does not financially suffer from this situation.

Angela and Joe,
We are so proud of you. Six weeks ago you came to us as entrants in a contest. Yesterday you expressed your heartfelt experiences with our athletes. You embraced the mission of Special Oympics. Through sport, you facilitated the acceptance of individuals with intellectual disabilities into the community. You hosted our athletes and made them feel welcomed. You raised funds to enable us to include more athletes in the future. You furthered our mission and in the hearts of our athletes your are winners!

Ed, I find your comment interesting. My husband has a Master's degree in Bible and our goal was to be in full-time preaching always. I prayed to marry a preacher, and I'm convinced Douglas is the answer to my prayer. He has preached since getting out of school, but for 20 years he got out of full-time work, did secular work full-time, and preached at a small congregation for 17 years. He served as a elder at another church some of the years he wasn't preaching full time. Now, after all those years, we are back in it full-time working and loving it, yet I wonder if we made the right decision.
