Employment Agencies, Do They Help?
Yes, they definitely help. Registering with an employment agency can prove to be very useful in your search for a new employment opportunity. The agencies may not have a job in their database at the moment of your need, but something always come up. It will also cost you nothing to register with one. employment agencies are not allowed by law to charge you a fee for a getting a job, they are supposed to get you employment for free. This is with exception of modeling agencies which charge a fee for getting models a job contract.
Job-seeker should not rely solely on recruitment agencies to search for work placement, rather they should seek other options such as recommendations from friends, colleagues in their field of specialization and other sources to get employment. If you must rely on agencies, then sign up with several agencies which specialize in your field or industry. Do not only register with the large agencies but also do so with some small agencies, preferably which are located in your locality. Most recruitment agencies can be found online through the recruitment agency finder .They are also available through the yellow pages and in most local directories. If you scope through the Executive Grapevine, a list of employment agencies are also listed. You will normally also find employment agencies advertising all sort of vacancies in newspapers, magazines, trade journals and many other publications.
Before sending your resume, you should contact the agency you have in mind, this is because most unsolicited resumes end up in the rubbish bins. Before you decide on which agency to use, it is a good idea to go and talk with as many agency representatives as you could. Majority of the best agencies will always invite you for a meeting. The ones, which specialize on your area of expertise, will definitely be able to furnish you with more information about what is prevailing in the job market. They will be able to advice you on other avenues for your talent that you may have overlooked and will be able to advise you on what position they would consider you for and the likely salary or wages range.
One thing about these agencies, they will always seek your permission before sending out your resume. This is to prevent any other agency sending the same resume from a single applicant to the same company that wants to fill a vacancy, otherwise a company may end up being billed twice for the same resume which is quite unprofessional. If a company receives your resume twice from different agencies, you will end up loosing on the vacancy because the prospect of a company paying twice for the same applicant is not viable. All in all these agencies are of a great help to any job-seeker ,if you come about an agency advertising a vacant job in what ever media, call them up and make sure they send your resume off. You will end up being invited for many interviews if you through these agencies.

When going to employment agencies to register what do they expect you to wear?
I have a few appointments with employment agencies on Friday, i’ve just to go in and register – do they expect you to dress very formally or just normally? I’m going on route to my current job and my current employer does not know i’m job hunting.
I dress normal, its not them who you will be working for.

You can’t go wrong with business dress. Too casual is not good.

Could be a bit tricky if you’re a CROSS dresser buddy!…..

Just wear what you would wear normally even if your current work has you in a uniform they will understand and they cannot contact your current employer for a reference without your permission so relax and go get that new job you want

Dress smartly – first impressions really do count!

Just dress normally because all you do is sit in the lobby and fill out a load of forms.

dress neatly, you can wear a suit to the agency if you want to and just take off the jacket and leave it in the car before you go to your job.
a nice sweater and a pair of slacks should suffice though.
good luck with the job search!

They expect you to wear what you would wear to a job interview for a position in your chosen field. You never know when they will have had someone who literally just called and they think you’d be perfect for the position!
Never go into apply for any job without dressing as if you were going in for an interview. You never know when they will be looking to interview and hire someone immediately!
If you have to wear a uniform to your current job, leave early enough that you can change from your more dressed up clothes to your uniform before going to work.

I’d wear smart office clothes (the same sort that you’d wear to work) to give the impression of you being professional. Someone else has said that all you do is sit and fill in forms, however, if you turn up scruffy to do this, what sort of impression is that?

I am with agencies now, all i wore to my interviews was casual clothes (Jeans, t-shirt and shoes). But i’m only a HGV driver and i think it depends on the catogory of work you will be doing and how you would dress for the job. If for instance if you are applying for clerical work in an office then it would be a different sort of dress code as to a driver like me or someone doing manual labour. I think it would be a wasted effort to wear a suit when all they are interested in are your skills. Good look for the interviews, but i’m sure you won’t need it.

They prefer business casual; look neat and well groomed and dress the way you would for an actual job interview, which this is. You need to make a good impression.

just dress smart casual

Dress in a professional manner you can never go wrong and you don’t know who you might meet.

i’ve worked as a sales agent for an employment agency, and when i got contracts and came back to the office, i wanted to talk to recruiters right away and see who was a great candidate to be able to send resumes asap to the employer.
if you dress one grade higher than expected for your type of work (a suit, when business casual is the norm for clerical work) you stand out to the recruiters. its the difference that sets you out from the masses of people who just walk through the door. also when you dress for the recruiter’s interview, dont forget that is still an interview. very few of our contracts would actually interview candidates after we had screened for their position. especially if we had a long relationship with that company, meaning your 1st impression does happen at the agency. if you dont stand out there, chances are good that you wont be passed along to the employer for consideration. another point to consider, is that dressing too casually at the agency, recruiters feel uncomfortable placing a candidate that may or may not know what is appropriate office wear. the worst thing in the world for the agency besides outright problems with the candidate are the candidate showing up not looking professional and complaints coming in or the employee being sent home, which might put the contract at risk. hope this info helps!

Have to say that I usually wear jeans.
